Tracking Calories vs Tracking Macros… What’s the difference???
Updated: Aug 10, 2024
It’s common to get these two ideas mixed up, but they are entirely different! Tracking calories refers to the total amount of calories consumed in a day. There is no awareness around protein, fat or carbs.
Tracking macros refers to the total amount of each macronutrient you consume in a day, which adds up to your daily calorie intake. You track the total grams of protein, fat, and carbohydrate. Macros are meant for reaching goals of all kinds: fat loss, muscle gain, or maintenance.
It is true that an overall calorie deficit will cause weight loss. Although, if protein is not prioritized, muscle will be lost. If fats are being forgotten, you’ll be miserable, and hormones will be all over the place. Don’t go there.
So, there is a BIG FAT difference! Macros help you sustainably reach your goal, without feeling restricted and miserable.
